This is an evaluation version of Kurzweil VoicePad for Windows, the world's first voice-enabled word processing application. It allows you to seamlessly integrate voice input with the keyboard and mouse to provide a natural and intuitive approach to document creation. Whether you're a student or an executive, computer novice or expert, you can create and format text, enter numeric data and control this word processing application simply by speaking into your PC.
Kurzweil VoicePad requires no training at all, yet initial 'out-of-the-box' recognition accuracy can be 90% or higher. In addition, VoicePad automatically adapts to your speech and language patterns boosting ongoing recognition accuracy up to 97% or higher.
Kurzweil VoicePad includes an active vocabulary of 11,500 commonly spoken words, and the ability to add up to 200 of your own words. This evaluation version will allow you to dictate up to 2,500 words before it stops functioning.
Kurzweil VoicePad allows you to create memos, letters, reports and other documents by dictating directly into the application. You can also format text, navigate through the application's settings, and preview and print documents using intuitive voice commands. In addition, VoicePad integrates continuous digit recognition with its discrete speech technology so users can quickly enter telephone numbers, street addresses, dollar amounts, social security numbers and other numeric data.
GETTING STARTED
You can try using Kurzweil VoicePad with the microphone that came with your sound board or PC. However, you will get optimum recognition performance with a noise-canceling microphone from Andrea Electronics Corporation. Currently, Andrea Electronics is offering its industry-standard microphones at a special price to all Kurzweil VoicePad customers. To order, simply call 718-729-8500, or visit their web site at http://www.andreaelectronics.com.
Before you begin using Kurzweil VoicePad, you should check to make sure that the microphone is properly installed. To turn the microphone on and off, press CTRL and ALT at the same time. You can also check online Help or Practice to learn how to control the microphone using voice commands. A green indicator light in the VoicePad main window means the microphone is on, and VoicePad is listening. A gray indicator means that the microphone is off, and that VoicePad is not listening. Always remember to keep the microphone off unless you are speaking to VoicePad.
You can familiarize yourself with the full range of Kurzweil VoicePad features by carefully reviewing the online Help and the Readme.txt. To ensure that your initial dictation experience is a positive one, we suggest that you:
> Click the DEMO button to hear the pace and cadence of discrete dictation
> Click the PRACTICE button to learn some of the main editing commands for VoicePad
